Why am I in Mexico?

Thank you for visiting my blog!  This is the first entry of my blog that will document my experiences in Peace Corps Mexico as an Environmental Education Volunteer for the next 2 years and 3 months.  For those of you who do not know my story here is a short synopsis of how who I am and how what I have done has led to me moving to Mexico.

My name is Mary and I was born and raised in Tennessee = Other than me being born, not sure how this led me to being a volunteer…

I am the youngest of 4 kids in my family = Made me REALLY good at ‘going with the flow’ as they say and taking things as they come, a good thing to be able to do in the Peace Corps

My family likes to travel…a lot = I love visiting new places and have always wanted to live abroad

I graduated from Furman University this past May with degrees in Political Science and Sustainability Science = I know just a little bit about countries and the environment

I interned at an organization that worked on projects that implemented alternative energy solutions to areas in need in developing countries = Made me realize that as much as I love writing up plans for other people to implement, I would like to actually carry out the projects myself

I was a camp counselor = Found out working with kids is fun and I like adventure

I studied abroad in India = Realized I wanted to help people in developing countries because sometimes all we need is just a little helping hand…I have 2 hands and I’m ready to use them!

I have 2 awesome parents = I knew they were going to support me no matter what crazy plans I had in my head….even if it meant moving to a developing country

Combine all these things (maybe one or two more) and BAM! You have yourself a Peace Corps Environmental Education Volunteer stationed in Mexico.
